jesus made me puke
You really must read Matt Taibbi’s Rolling Stone Magazine article “Jesus Made Me Puke“. The article is actually excerpted from his as-yet-unreleased book “The Great Derangement”.
Taibbi goes undercover for a weekend retreat with a far-right evangelical Christian group. These aren’t your run of the mill evangelicals either; they’re the speaking-in-tongues, casting-out-demons type of evangelicals.
Incidentally, the church that he joined in order to get this story is led by Rev. John Hagee, an influential right-winger whose endorsement was initially sought out by John McCain, but then was rejected yesterday after it became apparent to McCain just what a nutjob the guy really is.

Yeah I read that the other day. A lot of it was familar, having been on the fringes.
(but not falling for it)
And yes, I have had someone ask me if I wanted to “learn” to speak in tongues.
That was a great article! As one who is “Christian” in the sense that the written “teachings” of that one Jesus dude form my moral and ethical foundation, I really like it when folks go after those who claim ownership of “Christ”. Yep, Hagee is a nut job, but then, so is McCain, and so is Hillary, and so is Obama. I truly think anybody who would seek that kind of power (and say they “deserve” to be president) must have a narcisitic personality disorder.
And I don’t know what to think of somebody who claims to have “found” Jesus. In living in this “Christian” country where “Jesus The Lord” is crammed down our throats from day one, it would be really hard for him to get lost, don’t ya think? Or maybe he’s just busy sitting at a truck stop diner, drinking coffee with folks, puking at the thought of what folks are doing in his name’s sake.
