la, la, la, la, la, i can’t hear you…la, la, la, la, la
Here’s another amusing little anecdote about the Bush administration. In 2007, the Supreme Court ruled that the EPA must make a determination about the harmful effects of greenhouse gasses. In December, the EPA sent the White House a report containing their conclusions and recommendations. The Bush Administration, knowing full well that the report contained information that was contrary to their policies, simply refused to open the email.
I don’t know, I just have visions of George W. standing there like a bratty 6-year-old, sticking his fingers in his ears and saying “la, la, la, la, I can’t hear you!”. And the amazing thing is it actually worked. The EPA is now releasing a new watered-down version of the report.
I can just see them trying this strategy with everything from now on. “What? a voicemail from the Supreme Court saying prisoners at Gitmo have a right to habeas corpus? Sorry, I didn’t check my messages.” “What’s that you say? The house overrode my veto of the farm bill? Guess I didn’t get that memo.”
Sheesh.

Don, As amazing as it sounds, that has been my experience in dealing with folks in DC. I know we all read accounts of lobbyists paying for access to Legislators, etc…, but it’s actually much simpler than that. All you need to do to get access to any Congressperson or Senator is; GO TO THEIR OFFICE IN DC. I have simply walked into Senate subcomitttee hearings on any number of subjects, and been able to address many issues with ranking legislative members on the spot. I don’t know wether my presence has affected anything, but I at least have the knowledge that I tried. As far as the White House goes? My Uncle’s brother was an Air Force general who was asked to write an opinion for the White House during the Reagan years. His opinion came back for rewrites three times because it wouldn’t fit on Reagan’s one page daily briefing sheet. In your words? *Sheesh*
