hslda sucks
I must be getting old because all I ever do anymore is complain. OK, well on with it then…
Over at the HomeEdMag News and Commentary blog, Valerie Moon points out more scare-mongering from HSLDA. This time it’s their subsidiary, parentalrights.org. They’re pushing a parental rights constitutional amendment.
What could be wrong with parental rights, you might ask? Well, nothing in and of itself. The problem is with their amendment. First, an amendment to the constitution is a big deal. It’s not like getting a city ordnance passed to put in a stoplight or something, we’re talking about the highest law of the land. Let’s not go changing it on a whim, k? Second, as Valerie points out, the proposed amendment is so vague that it’s often been referred to as “the lawyer’s full employment act”.
So we have an organization run by lawyers, pushing for a vague constitutional amendment that will virtually guarantee years of lawsuits. How long until the Home School Legal Defense Association morphs into the Parents Legal Defense Association? This is nothing but another scare tactic, and all of the HSLDA sheeple will fall for it.

I must be getting old because I just can’t get worked up into a lather like I could in my younger days.
I file this under “Who Cares what HSLDA proposes?” It’s an intentionally badly-written proposal designed to do one thing– bring in money for HSLDA. It has zero, nada, absolutely no chance of ever making it out of committee, much less being sent to the states for ratification.
If it ever does make it to the states (Mirabile dictu!) I’ll man the barricades then. Today? Meh.
I bet they got worked up in a later about that judge in Quebec who said a dad couldn’t ground hos daughter.
It was part of a custody battle, by the way, and it was in quebec, which is well-known for having different laws than the rest of canada.
All I can muster is a big eye roll.
I’m with Daryl, I just can’t get worked up about it. It’s a fund raising scam, pure and simple.
I’m not really that worked up about it, I just need something to complain about or I’m not happy.
I was going to point out in my post that there is no way this will pass. They’ve been trying for 12 years already, and it hasn’t gone anywhere.
