stupid is as stupid does
Snopes confirms that this letter to the editor is real:
You may have noticed that March of this year was particularly hot. As a matter of fact, I understand that it was the hottest March since the beginning of the last century. All of the trees were fully leafed out and legions of bugs and snakes were crawling around during a time in Arkansas when, on a normal year, we might see a snowflake or two.
This should come as no surprise to any reasonable person. As you know, Daylight Saving Time started almost a month early this year. You would think that members of Congress would have considered the warming effect that an extra hour of daylight would have on our climate. Or did they?
Perhaps this is another plot by a liberal Congress to make us believe that global warming is a real threat. Perhaps next time there should be serious studies performed before Congress passes laws with such far-reaching effects.

What an amazing grasp on science this woman has.

It would have been all the tastier had she quoted from a creation science website..
Ew! What’s with this font?? Is this my doing (or my teens?) or have you conspired to make my already middle aged eyesight all the worse??
Wherever I saw this yesterday (Boing Boing maybe?) also found an attorney in Hot Springs by the same name. What we don’t know for sure is if it’s the same person.
Hot Springs isn’t all that big is it? I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s an attorney though because I know an idiot who wants to be an attorney and another who fancies herself a cop. *eyeroll*. It’s the degree that makes their head swell.
Or maybe it’s that extra hour of Daylight Savings Time. *snicker*
Did I read this right? Is it true that Congress is responsible for the early warming? Are they also responsible for the late cold snap that killed every flower in my town? We didn’t even get a whole week of blooming tulips, and for that someone must pay.
[...] Don Gookins has a really good bad example. [...]
Are you sure she just isn’t as big of a sarcastic smart ass as you, Don?
But Snopes goes on to relate several tongue-in-cheek letters she’s written. And look at all the responses to her daylight savings letter. If she is an attorney, isn’t it the name recognition that counts?
My personal opinion is that it was sarcasm, because I’ve come up with similar off-the-wall rantings.
OMG, I just realized. If we simply set the clock BACK a couple hours, we can CURE global warming!!
Now WHERE was the Scopes monkey trial again? Oh, that was Kansas, wasn’t it? Hey, doesn’t Kansas border Arkansas?
Doc, you’re a frickin’ genius!!
OK Don, once again your wife is right!!! Digging a little deeper (two paragraphs) on the link that you provided, clues us in to the fact that this person has a history of Writting sarcastic letters to the editor. The last paragraph mentions that his office voicemail has the follwing message, “If you are calling about the Daylight Savings Time letter and wish to explain global warming, or daylight savings time to me, I would urge you to get a sense of humor and/or a life, in that order. Unless, of course, you want to pay me for an interview…”
